How To Get Better Quality Sleep
July 25th, 2009 Filed Under sleep apnea, snoring, snoring cure
Not getting the sleep you need? You may be committing one of these 5 mistakes. Read on to enjoy better quality sleep every night.
The majority of us experience poor sleep from time to time. If we’re lucky it may only be for a couple of nights, but some people have poor or unrefreshing sleep nearly all the time. So how can we all have better quality sleep? Here’s 5 things NOT to do!
Don’t sleep in on weekend mornings —
It’s so tempting isn’t it? After all we don’t have to leap out of bed and catch a train. But please resist the temptation to sleep in on weekends. You will severely disrupt your sleep pattern by disturbing your circadian rhythm.
To ensure a healthy circadian rhythm, go to bed and get up at the same time every day. It’s one of the most important habits to acquire for a better night’s sleep.
Plan something to look forward to on weekends so you won’t be tempted to lie in bed and waste the morning.
Having a drink or two before bed won’t help you sleep —
But doesn’t alcohol help you relax and go to sleep? Yes, alcohol does help you relax. However a few hours later it starts to metabolize in the body and can make you feel wide awake. One drink with dinner probably won’t hurt though
Don’t work on the computer just before bed —
Sometimes we get so busy that the only time we have to finish off those last minute jobs is just before bed. But did you know that working on your computer, or even surfing late at night can speed up brainwave activity. Staring at the bright computer screen can affect your sleep rhythm for the night. Save computer tasks for the next morning, you’ll be more alert and will probably get thing done a lot quicker.
Don’t lie in bed and worry about everything —
Now if you’re one of these worriers, I understand that it’s a very hard habit to break. This was my downfall when I was suffering from insomnia. During the day our thoughts are occupied with our daily activities, but as soon as we get into bed it seems to trigger the worry button and out thoughts come streaming into our minds, keeping us awake for hours. Id you’re a dedicated worrier like me, you’ll find something to worry about even when things are going well!
One of the best ways to break the worry habit is to carve out some “worry time” during the evening. During this time, consciously worry about everything that needs your attention. You can even have a special journal to write your worries down. When you have finished, tell yourself you will continue worrying about these things tomorrow, but tonight is for rest. This was how I broke my worry habit so give it a try.
Don’t jump into bed when you’re still wide awake —
Spend some time winding down before hitting the sheets. Breathing exercises are good for this or you can read for a while if this relaxes you. Reading in bed can make some people pleasantly drowsy but it can keep others awake. You will have to try it to see if it helps you.
I hope that learning these 5 mistakes will help you form some good habits and get the better quality sleep that you’re looking for.

Are Snoring and Sleep Apnea Related? – Snoring Apnea
July 24th, 2009 Filed Under sleep apnea, snoring, snoring cure
It is bad when you cannot get a good night sleep and if you are snoring then this could be the main cause. There are some great natural remedies that you can use to get a better night sleep.
If you have had problems with sleeping for a while then you may be experiencing fatigue during the day and this can cause you to have many issues. It is good to know that there are ways that you can get a better night sleep because we have all had nights were you just could not get to sleep and the next day was horrible.
It is important to understand the way your body works when it comes to sleep because there may be things that you are drinking or eating that may be causing you to have sleepless nights as well. If you drink anything that has caffeine in it this can cause you not to sleep very well.
If you are overweight, you are more often than not a habitual snorer due to the extra fat layers around the neck. The extra fat will weigh down on the throat while sleeping, and the airway will be more constricted during the night hours because you are lying down and fully relaxed. There is also a direct linkage between unhealthy daily diets, the lacking of daily exercise, and even late night dairy products being consumed. It has been noted that extra mucus tends to build up from many dairy products leading to snoring.
Sleep apnea is more severe than snoring because snoring is where your airflow don’t have as much room to go through, but apnea is where the airways are blocked completely, and you actually have to wake up to resume breathing.
You want to make sure that if you are having issues with sleep that you make a few changes to see if this helps. If you are still having problems sleeping after you have tried these things then you should find a natural remedy that works well for you.

Quit Snoring With These 2 Simple Tips

Your snoring can really come between you and your partner or the rest of your family if it is particulary loud so you really need to do something about it. Snoring may even be a symptom of some other problem that can potentially do you harm. Thus the motivation to quit snoring could not be bigger. This article will cover some approach to successfully quit snoring.

Snoring is a result of the respiratory system getting block with air. The blocked air bounces around in the respiratory system causing some parts to vibrate which makes the booming noise that is usually attributed to a snoring person.
So the best way to quit snoring is to stop the air that is breathed in and out from getting blocked.
There seem to be two approaches to solving this problem.
You can either ensure that the body never gets into a position where the airways in the respiratory system can get blocked. This means wearing or using a device that keeps the body in a theoretically ideal position.
So depending on where the blockage may be, you could end up wearing something on the nose, like a nasal strip or plaster that stretches the nostrils open. If the blockage is thought to be in the throat or mouth then you may wear a mouth guard that holds the jaw in place during the night. You may even wear a chin strap type device to perform the same function.
Another idea is to use a pillow that keeps your head in a position so that it is unlikely that the airways will get blocked.
Note that these approaches to quit snoring are not really a solution as such but merely methods to prevent the snoring happening each night. The main disadvantage of these methods is apathy and lack of motivation as people soon lose interest or forget to use them.
A more permanent solution is to do exercises. These exercises are specifically throat and mouth exercises because most of the snoring sound is generated by the soft palate and the uvula that are located in the mouth/throat.
The main focus of exercises are to strengthen the lower jaw muscles and the soft palate so that they are firm when the mouth is closed and keep the airways free. There are a many different muscle exercises that can help stop your snoring however you have to commt to the program or it will not work.

What Is The Best Stop Snoring Method?
July 22nd, 2009 Filed Under sleep apnea, snoring, snoring cure
Most people with a snoring problem will have tried one or more stop snoring devices in their quest for the best stop snoring method. Whether you are a snorer or the sleeping partner of someone who snores you are probably searching for ways to get a good night’s sleep.
Snoring is an involuntary action and so is not possible to stop snoring through will power alone. The snorer needs to look for a solution that will keep the airway open and allow an unrestricted airflow during sleep and there are plenty of options: medications and machines, devices and gadgets as well as various combinations of these that may work for one person and not for another. One remedy that is very successful is using exercises to stop snoring.
The snoring chin strap has been developed to help stop snoring in a person who breathes through their mouth. The idea is that the strap holds the mouth closed while sleeping so that the patient is forced to breathe through the nose and thus be prevented from snoring. After using the chin strap for a while, the snorer may train themselves to breathe naturally through the nose during sleep.
The snoring chin strap can also be used for holding the jaw in a forward position during sleep. This frequently helps people with a collapsing soft palate or tongue that falls back into the airway during sleep causing a partial blockage.
Other methods of stopping snoring include nasal strips that help to hold open the nostrils and nasal sprays which are useful for unblocking a stuffy nose. Nasal strips were originally developed for athletes, to widen the nostrils with the aim of increasing the flow of oxygen to the lungs. For snorers who experience restricted breathing through the nose, the nasal strips or dilators may be helpful.
A stop snoring pillow can be used to align the head and neck during sleep in a manner that holds the airway open and reduces snoring. They can be helpful for people who snore due to restricted breathing caused by bad sleeping posture. The pillow is wedge shaped and the narrow edge of the wedge is placed under the shoulders and the raised rolled edge is placed under the neck.
Another recent development in stop snoring remedies is a product known as Snore Ender™. This incorporates innovative biosensor technology designed to pick up the first signs of snoring. The Snore Ender™ monitors your snoring while you are asleep and releases gentle vibrations that pass along the surface of the skin until the snoring ceases.
In conclusion, there are many devices to choose from when looking for the best stop snoring method.
