Simple Stop Snoring Exercises.

July 27th, 2009   Filed Under sleep apnea, snoring, snoring cure

Many options are available to the snorer.  Over the counter drops and spray along with a simple humidifier in the bedroom made help the problem.  Some kind of breathing problem might also be the reason behind why a person snores but doing stop snoring exercises can easily treat it.  Let’s take a look at what we mean by that.

Unlike other exercises, these stop snoring exercises are designed to help you with your breathing and to improve your lung function.  When your lungs are stronger you’re less likely to be choking, gasping, or wheezing during your sleep and are more likely to be able to breathe freely through your nose.  When you have less lung capacity you’re more likely to be breathing through your mouth in order to get enough air and can be making all those other sounds as well.  Simple stop snoring exercises involve stretching and breathing and can be very effective when done right before bed.

To get started with your snoring exercises, stand with your feet shoulder width apart and take a few very deep breaths, exhaling very slowly. Shrug the shoulders and slowly roll the head from one side to another.   Then reach way above your head with both hands as you inhale, and then exhale as you lower your hands back down to your sides.  Repeat this method while feeling your lungs and chest expand.  You might have a problem the first few nights you try your stop snoring exercises, but if you continue with them you’ll notice that your lungs can handle deeper breaths more and more each time.  You can add some other simple stretching and breathing exercises as well; just make sure you’re not straining yourself and aren’t being overactive especially right before bed.  Your stop snoring exercises are simply meant to stretch your muscles and to get your lungs to breathe deeply and easily.  Adding simple stretches for your back can help you relax as you sleep and  keep your upper body from getting tense.  If you don’t have tension in your neck your jaw probably won’t open up and you won’t breath through your mouth.  If you need more structured stop snoring exercises, try a simple tai chi or yoga routine as these usually emphasize easy stretching and deep breathing and typically can be done by anyone regardless of physical fitness level.

Signs of Sleep Apnea – Ignore Them at Your Peril

July 26th, 2009   Filed Under sleep apnea, snoring, snoring cure

You may be one of the many people who have heard of sleep apnea and are wondering what exactly the signs are. Unfortunately the occurance of sleep apnea is rising it not something to be trivialized. Sleep apnea, if ignored, can cause toxins in the blood to build up until you run the risk of damage to muscles and organs – the brain included. So what are the signs of sleep apnea and what should you do if you think you may have this condition?

Firstly, when asking what the signs of signs of sleep apnea are remember that just because you have restless nights when you keep waking up it does not mean that you have sleep apnea. You could be waking up because you’ve drunk too much coffee, you’re under stress or even simply because of a lack of exercise. So what are the signs of sleep apnea that set it apart from general sleeplessness?

Drowsiness during the day, irritability and mood swings, chronic headaches, muscle aches, sore throat and neck stiffness in the morning are all symptoms of sleep apnea. Night time symptoms include loud snoring together with choking, gasping and wheezing. Symptoms such as these can be particularly significant to sleepapnes because they area sign that the body has breathing problems during sleep. You have to be aware of both night and day symptoms. Bad headaches can be caused by lots of reasons, as can irritability. However, gasping, choking, wheezing, and loud snoring during the night are almost always signs of sleep apnea.

At the end of the day, if you think there is the slightest chance that you are showing signs of sleep apnes then make an appointment to talk to your doctor. Not only can sleep apnea cause serious health complications, it can actually be fatal, so be sure to take your symptoms seriously and, if need be get it treated right away.

How To Get Better Quality Sleep

July 25th, 2009   Filed Under sleep apnea, snoring, snoring cure

Not getting the sleep you need? You may be committing one of these 5 mistakes. Read on to enjoy better quality sleep every night.

The majority of us experience poor sleep from time to time. If we’re lucky it may only be for a couple of nights, but some people have poor or unrefreshing sleep nearly all the time. So how can we all have better quality sleep? Here’s 5 things NOT to do!

Don’t sleep in on weekend mornings —

It’s so tempting isn’t it? After all we don’t have to leap out of bed and catch a train. But please resist the temptation to sleep in on weekends. You will severely disrupt your sleep pattern by disturbing your circadian rhythm.

To ensure a healthy circadian rhythm, go to bed and get up at the same time every day. It’s one of the most important habits to acquire for a better night’s sleep.

Plan something to look forward to on weekends so you won’t be tempted to lie in bed and waste the morning.

Having a drink or two before bed won’t help you sleep —

But doesn’t alcohol help you relax and go to sleep? Yes, alcohol does help you relax. However a few hours later it starts to metabolize in the body and can make you feel wide awake. One drink with dinner probably won’t hurt though

Don’t work on the computer just before bed  —

Sometimes we get so busy that the only time we have to finish off those last minute jobs is just before bed. But did you know that working on your computer, or even surfing late at night can speed up brainwave activity. Staring at the bright computer screen can affect your sleep rhythm for the night. Save computer tasks for the next morning, you’ll be more alert and will probably get thing done a lot quicker.

Don’t lie in bed and worry about everything  —

Now if you’re one of these worriers, I understand that it’s a very hard habit to break. This was my downfall when I was suffering from insomnia. During the day our thoughts are occupied with our daily activities, but as soon as we get into bed it seems to trigger the worry button and out thoughts come streaming into our minds, keeping us awake for hours. Id you’re a dedicated worrier like me, you’ll find something to worry about even when things are going well!

One of the best ways to break the worry habit is to carve out some “worry time” during the evening. During this time, consciously worry about everything that needs your attention. You can even have a special journal to write your worries down. When you have finished, tell yourself you will continue worrying about these things tomorrow, but tonight is for rest. This was how I broke my worry habit so give it a try.

Don’t jump into bed when you’re still wide awake —

Spend some time winding down before hitting the sheets. Breathing exercises are good for this or you can read for a while if this relaxes you. Reading in bed can make some people pleasantly drowsy but it can keep others awake. You will have to try it to see if it helps you.

I hope that learning these 5 mistakes will help you form some good habits and get the better quality sleep that you’re looking for.
