Natural Insomnia Remedies To Help You Sleep

Sunday 27 December 2009 @ 11:49 pm

Insomnia is a condition that affects a number of people for a number of reasons. If you don’t want to take traditional medications for this sleep disorder, you may want to consider some natural insomnia remedies instead. Here are some ideas for an insomnia remedy that you can start using today in order to get a good night’s sleep.

Many people use essential oils such as lavender and rose as a natural insomnia remedy. These essential oils can be found at a number of drug stores. You can soak in a tub laced with these oils in order to relax your body and calm your nervous system. You can also fill a sachet with these oils and keep them next to your pillow at night. When you breathe in the aroma, you’ll be inducing sleep, and you’re likely to stay asleep throughout the night. These oils can also be used in diluted form as facial treatments. When you have the essences of the oils on your skin all day, you’re much more likely to be in a good mood, and you’ll be fighting blemishes and skin impurities as well.

Passion flower is another one of the natural insomnia remedies that you may want to try. This flower is native to Brazil and Argentina and can be found in capsule and tea form. If you’ve been feeling a considerable amount of anxiety for any reason, passion flower will help to promote a boost in your mood, which will make it much easier for you to relax. Try taking the tea or capsules about 30 minutes before you’re ready for bed.

One of the most important steps in terms of dealing with insomnia is to reduce the amount of caffeine that you consume every day. It’s particularly important not to drink coffee, colas, or tea in the afternoon. This will help your nervous system to grow progressively calmer in the hours before you need to be asleep. Keep in mind that caffeine is also present in a number of cold medications as well, so read the labels when you’re looking for medicines to clear up sneezing or a stuffy nose.

Other insomnia remedies include making a clear distinction between mealtime and bedtime. Your last meal of the day shouldn’t be too heavy, and you should make sure that you don’t eat too close to bedtime. This will put too much pressure on your digestive system, so you won’t be able to sleep soundly until your system is finished using the food you’ve eaten for fuel. A glass of pure fruit juice is best to drink before bedtime to settle your stomach and promote good sleep.

Drinking a cup of warm milk before bed is good, too; add a splash of cinnamon or nutmeg to relax your nervous system and lower your blood sugar before bedtime. If you want to drink a glass of wine with a meal every once in a while, that’s fine, but make sure that you aren’t using alcohol as a sleeping aid.

How To Naturally Fall Asleep

Saturday 26 December 2009 @ 6:16 pm

People have had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep for many years now. We all see the commercials for sleeping pills everyday. This can be tempting when you have not slept in many days. Before you call your doctor to get sleeping pills I would like to give you some tips on how to naturally fall asleep.

Sleeping pills can leave you feeling groggy and unrested. If you wake up feeling like you did not get any rest how is that better than actually not getting sleep? There are several safe and effective ways to fall asleep naturally without medication.

You may believe that nothing will help you sleep the way sleeping pills can but if you are already not sleeping it wont actually hurt to just try these things first. Tea is a great natural way to get to sleep. A hot cup of tea is soothing and relaxing but there are also teas made with herbs that can help you get to sleep.

Valerian root tea, Catnip tea, and Chamomile tea are all great herb teas to drink before bed. Some people prefer not to drink tea if you are one of them you can also try warm milk. There has never been a given reason as to why this works but the fact is it does.

I feel like it is the relaxed feeling you get when you drink warm milk and it warms your stomach that help you sleep. You will also need to stay away from anything containing caffeine like soda, nicotine, and alcohol before bed. Another great way to naturally get to sleep is aromatherapy.

You can use aromatherapy candles in your bedroom if you like – just be sure to put them out before bed. You can also try having a hot aromatherapy bath just before bed. Falling asleep naturally is basically just finding the right bedtime routine that works for you.

Natural Insomnia Treatments – There Is Always Another Choice

Friday 25 December 2009 @ 10:29 am

Have you had trouble getting to sleep at night recently? If so you are not alone because insomnia is a massive problem here in the United States. In order to achieve a good night’s sleep, millions of physically exhausted Americans turn to prescription sleep aids in fact you may even be considering to join them. Before you do you should know that prescription insomnia medicines are not good for the treatment of long term insomnia because may are addictive and they can cause some unwanted side effects. Your best bet in treating insomnia is in the use of natural treatments.

A Few Small Changes

Insomnia natural treatments are not at all complicated. Many of the natural insomnia treatments only comprise the changing of your personal habits and routine, therefore they are completely free. The change of your diet should be your starting point, especially since eating the wrong foods and drinking of certain beverages are the main causes of your brain and body ceasing its proper functioning. First change your diet by cutting back on eating processed foods containing additives, as well as cutting back on caffeine based products and alcoholic beverages. In exchange, you should only eat and drink fresh whole foods and beverages.

Regular exercise is another insomnia natural treatment, especially if you do it in the earlier part of the day. That doesn’t mean that you have to start running marathons or boxing. All that is required is moderate exercise such as brisk walking for half an hour or so each day and some endurance work such as yoga a few times per week. So long as you get your heart pumping and keep your muscles active you should find it much easier to get to sleep at night.

Other natural insomnia treatments seem simple but many people overlook them. For instance you need to ensure that your bedroom is conducive to sleep. In others words the room should be dark, quiet, cool and well ventilated. Do not try to sleep with any synthetic materials next to your skin since this will make you sweat. Turn your alarm clock to face away from you so that you will not be tempted to keep looking at it. Have a warm bath and a hot milky drink before bed. You should also avoid doing stimulating activities,as well as thinking of or over-analyzing problems once you turn out the lights for bed. Instead of lying in bed stressing about problems, get out of bed to do something relaxing until you start feeling sleepy if you find yourself unable to fall asleep.

Other Remedies

Many people find that herbal treatments for insomnia work very well. These herbs include things like chamomile, kava kava and valerian root. Other natural insomnia treatments can be purchased online or even at your local drug store. These include vitamin B12, magnesium and the essential amino acid L-Tryptophan. These treatments encourage your body to produce melatonin, a natural sleep hormone. Some experts believe that many people have trouble sleeping due to the depletion of serotonin and melatonin levels caused by electromagnetic radiation from things like computers, cell phones, and other electronic equipment. Synthetic melatonin is available for purchase at most drug stores.
