Different Snoring Remedies

Sunday 31 May 2009 @ 6:08 am

It is estimated that about forty five percent of people snore, which is not always a problem for the person doing the snoring as much as it is a problem for the partner who sleeps with them.  Snoring can be a life threatening condition, however, and it is important to monitor what type of snoring is happening and how it affects sleep patterns.  People who wake up in the morning and do not feel rested, have headaches, fall asleep at inappropriate times, have memory difficulties and low energy may have a more serious problem and should consult a doctor about it because they may be suffering from sleep apnea, which means they stop breathing multiple times during the night which can be fatal if left untreated.

Treatments

There are different snoring remedies on the market to stop snoring in individuals.  Snoring is caused by different things such as blocked nasal passages, deviated septum, the base of the tongue falling back into the throat, or enlarged tonsils or uvula.  The sound of snoring is caused by the vibrating palate and throat tissues.

Those with chronic sleep disorders such as sleep apnea will awaken up to one hundred times per night which leaves them feeling exhausted, sometimes with headaches in the morning, memory difficulties and a low energy level throughout the day.  One say to stop snoring with this condition is to use a continuous positive air pressure device, otherwise known as a CPAP.  This device uses a mask that people sleep with which ensures continuous air flow throughout the night, thus ensuring restful sleep.

Other Treatments For those who do not have sleep apnea but want to stop snoring, there are some simple treatments that they can try.  One is to monitor what they are eating before bed so that they do not eat too much in the evening and also decrease their intake of alcohol, dairy products as well as caffeine.  In addition, getting more exercise and not smoking will also help to stop snoring.

There are also medications that are sometimes used to help reduce the problem of snoring such as throat sprays, which lubricate the throat and make it easier for the air to get through it.  There are also allergy medications that help to reduce the swelling in the throat and nasal passages as well as nasal dilation devices that help to hold nasal passages open, allowing free breathing during the night.

Do You Have Sleep Deprivation Symptoms?

Friday 29 May 2009 @ 2:40 am

You can’t fix anything until you know there’s a problem – and realizing you have sleep deprivation symptoms will help you recognize a potential serious problem. These symptoms may indicate insomnia or a potential range of other diseases. Always check with a doctor to determine an appropriate course of treatment for any health issue.

Sleep deprivation symptoms include the obvious ones like fatigue, sluggishness and sleepiness. Minor fatigue or diminshed energy is normal from time to time, but once your lack of sleep interferes with your normal daily functions, you’re probably dealing with sleep deprivation.

Sometimes ongoing fatigue can cause loss of memory. It’s difficult to remember things when you’re sleep deprived. Also, mental confusion may occur, making you feel distracted, confused and lose clarity. The main reason for this mental confusion is that the brain suffers from too little sleep. Sleep invigorates and nourishes the brain preparing it for another day of mental work like thinking, speaking, remembering and writing.

A lesser known symptom of sleep deprivation is mood fluctuation. The brain chemicals responsible for a level and pleasant mood rely on sleep. Lack of sleep can cause anxiety, stress and depression. Sleep deprivation symptoms should never be ignored, as they can affect the way you feel throughout the day. A good night’s sleep increases your chances for a positive productive day.

If you have ever been to college you have probably experienced the next sleep deprivation symptom: lowered immune functioning. Lack of sleep hinders the immune system’s ability to fight off sickness. On campus, during finals week many students fall victim to colds and illnesses because they’re using their sleep time to study causing extreme sleep deprivation. Also, being deprived of sleep makes your body less able to recover quickly from illness, meaning you could be dealing with, for instance, a cold for ten days rather than five.

The first step to reducing sleep deprivation symptoms is self-explanatory, get more sleep! However, sometimes getting a good night’s sleep is difficult. People with insomnia or other sleep disorders have little choice but to deal with lack of sleep because they cannot seem to get into a pattern of restful, replenishing sleep.

To prevent most sleep problems, it’s important to instate proper sleep hygiene. This means going to bed and getting up at the same time every day, practicing relaxation before bed and making sure your bedroom is totally dark. These small changes can help train your brain to know that time for bed is time for sleep.

Most sleep deprivation symptoms will quickly disappear if good sleep hygiene habits are maintained regularly. If this doesn’t solve the problem, seek the advice of a sleep clinic or doctor to find other ways to help your body learn to fall asleep.

If you think you may have some of these sleep deprivation symptoms there are different techniques that can help. No one should have to suffer with lack of sleep if it can be helped. Ensure you get enough sleep for a healthier more fulfilling lifestyle.

Snoring Treatment Review: Looking For The Leading Snoiring Treatment?

Tuesday 26 May 2009 @ 5:37 pm

It might be useful to read a stop snoring treatment review if you’re been urgently looking for a snoring cure but are finding it hard to make a decision. In a stop snoring treatment review, you’ll find independent opinions and experiences from real people about the various snoring remedies that are available.

Over the Counter Remedies of Snoring Treatments

An exmaple of such a company selling snoring treatments on the web is Walgreens, an American drugstore. On their website you’ll find you are able to input customer reviews and rate their products. Stop snoring products are no different and there are multiple snoring treatment reviews here.

Breathe Right, a popular product, scored by far the highest points, the majority of its users rating the product satisfactory. However, some people reported having problems with the strips staying fastened in the correct way. Most users of stop snoring sprays indicated that the effects lasted under 10 minutes.

Oddly enough, there are no snoring treatment reviews available for electronic devices designed to help cure snoring. These have not been reviewed either at Walgreens.com or with any other online store that sells snoring products. Given that these products are relatively new it is best to regard these products as experimental. Translated, this means it’s wise to be slightly skeptical when it comes to spending money on these products.

Snoring Treatment Review: A Clinical Critique

When it comes to stop snoring products that are sold online, you can often find reviews regarding the product on several websites. Rather than looking at online reviews of treatments, if one is considering having surgical treatment carried out, it’s best to study clinical study reports. For Laser Assisted Uvulo Palatoplasty (LAUP) and radiofrequency, a clinical study will show whether this specific treatment actually works or doesn’t have any effect at all. The U.S. One such study was carried out at the Taiwanese Taichung Veterans General Hospital by the National Institute for Health. In the Autumn of 2005 40 people, both male and female took part. LAUP was shown to be much more effective than radio frequency treatment in the study. However it was found that those who underwent the radiofrequency treatment did have less pain.

A Snoring Treatment Review: Natural Treatments

A snoring treatment review of herbal and alternative treatments are difficult to find given that the scientific world does not really put too much “weight” on its effectiveness. Because the community is not entirely convinced by these kinds of new age treatment, very little substantial scientific research has been carried out on them. Given that most home snoring remedies have been handed down fom generation to generation, it has been argued that some are merely placebos and may be very effective at all? It’s not easy to find the answers. On the one hand, there’s no real evidence that these types of remedy are harmful at all.

Given that there are a few controversial stop snoring products on the market, it makes sense to read as many snoring treatment reviews that you can before trying a remedy.

How To Stop Snoring At Night

Tuesday 26 May 2009 @ 5:37 pm

As with many other chronic sleep disorders, there are a lot of so-called cures for snoring on the market today, from fancy pillows to homeopathic remedies and throat sprays and so many more.  How do you know if any of these work?  And why should you spend all your money on expensive pillows and harsh pills and other medications, if you’re not sure about their effectiveness?

It’s true that many of these snoring remedies actually do seem to work quite well for many people, however, there are some natural remedies and other products you can try that will probably work just as well.  You don’t need to spend a ton of money on them either, and they are not invasive or harsh, and will not interfere with other medications you’re taking or other conditions you may have.  Many have reported that these natural cures for snoring work just as well as the expensive treatment options they had tried previously, and even helped them to get a better night’s sleep and feel more well-rested all the way around.

For many people, snoring happens because their mouth and throat is very dry and scratchy.  When they breathe through their mouth, the throat makes a very loud vibrating sound that we call snoring.  Think about breathing right now – do you make that sound when you breathe through your nose?  Not usually.  Your nose is meant to be kept moist by all the mucus in there.  It’s gross to think about, but a key in figuring out how to stop snoring is to figure out if your throat is very dry at night.

Ask yourself if you wake up with a very dry mouth or a very sore throat.  Does it feel scratchy and irritated in the morning?  Is your mouth sticky with plaque buildup?  Of course everyone’s mouth is dry in the morning, but if you have some pain and discomfort, you may have your first clue in how to stop snoring.

One of the better cures for snoring for many people is to add a humidifier or vaporizer to the bedroom and to turn it all the way up.  When your throat and nasal cavities are dry, the air passing through them is going to cause the tissue to vibrate.  Many people snore more in the winter and other cold, dry months.  It seems odd that these little appliances are great cures for snoring, but they really do work for many people.  And if you get a good vaporizer, you can add some of the menthol and eucalyptus oil as well.  If you have back problems, you might consider a moist heating pad before going to bed, as this can help your lungs relax as well, and adds moisture to those areas.

These are not difficult or expensive cures for snoring, as we’ve said.  But before you spend good money on the other products, you might want to give these simple solutions a try.

The modern practice of traditional Chinese medicine brings together thousands of years of medical practice in China which includes the use of Chinese medicine to cure insomnia naturally. ‘Traditional Chinese medicine’ is a reasonably new term first used by the People’s Republic of China in the 1950s when that country was trying to create a significant export trade for its time honored medicines and medical practices.

Today, traditional Chinese medicine does not simply cover medicinal products, but also covers herbal preparations and a number of practices including massage and acupuncture. The foundation of Chinese medicine is that the human body functions as the result of a number of interrelated processes which are in continuous interaction with our environment. As long as these processes stay in balance you are healthy but, if these processes are out of balance, then your health suffers.

There are a variety of philosophies which govern the practice of Chinese medicine including such things as the theory of Yin-Yang which examines the role of the five elements (water, fire, earth, wood and metal), the flow of energy along the meridians of the body and the relationships between the organs of the body that are outlined in the theory of Zang-Fu.

For some considerable time there has been conflict between people who believe in traditional Chinese medical practices and those who believe in science-based Western medicine. Today however traditional Chinese medicine, as well as other types of Oriental and Asian medicine, is increasingly being accepted in the West and we often refer to these practices as alternative medicine.

For the many millions of sufferers herbal remedies have long proved to be effective in curing insomnia, or in relieving insomnia symptoms, and such things as lavender, chamomile, passion flower and lemon balm have long been known for their medicinal properties. There can be very few insomniacs who have not had a drink of hot honey and lemon at bedtime.

A growing number of people are also using acupuncture or, for people who do not fancy the idea of needles, acupressure. Both arts have been in use for many hundreds of years and the principles were born out of the Chinese practice of adjusting the energy within the body by controlling its flow along the body’s meridian lines.

In spite of its increasing acceptance there are still many people who are distrustful of Chinese medicine. However anyone who has first-hand experience of it in action, especially those of us who have been fortunate enough to live in the Far East, will certainly attest to its effectiveness.

If you suffer from insomnia then Chinese medicine is one route which you should consider seriously and a good place to start is with a simple herbal remedy for insomnia.

Are Sleeping Pills a Good Idea for Sleep Problems?

Monday 25 May 2009 @ 3:38 am

We all need to get a good night’s sleep in order to function properly. Sleep is necessary for our general well being. It keeps us alert through the daytime hours. It’s vital for our mental health and plays a part in combating disease. In an effort to get some much needed sleep insomniacs often turn to sleeping pills.

Every person has unique circumstances, and there is a variety of medications that target each particular problem. Some medications are most effective at helping you get to sleep, others make sure that you stay asleep, and some pills handle both situations. With all this choice you will most likely find an insomnia remedy that works well for you without experiencing any unwanted side effects.

The common perception of insomnia medication is that it leads to dependency and is lethal if you take an overdose. Today’s sleeping pills, however, are considerably less habit forming than the medications of old. And the chances of a lethal overdose are much reduced. A common complaint in the past has been that sleeping pills cause drowsiness the following day. However, today’s insomnia medication has managed to overcome these problems.

Even though less risky than sleeping pills of the past, there are still some dangers associated with today’s medication. The risk can range from low to high depending on which medication you’re using. But you might experience symptoms like dizziness, blurred vision and problems with other pharmaceuticals you’re taking.

Sleeping pills have been cited as the cause of drivers falling asleep at the wheel of the car. Another problem is that sleeping pills tend to induce a deep sleep. So if there’s an emergency in the night, like a fire, you might not be able to wake up. This is clearly a danger to both the person taking the drug and to others.

Insomnia medication isn’t a good strategy for long term management of a sleep disorder. They can be quite effective for short term use, but they don’t address the underlying problems that are causing your sleepless nights. Although they aren’t addictive, you might have to take them for an extended period before you actually see some benefit.

Even though insomnia medication can help you get a good night’s sleep, it needs to be utilized only in extreme circumstances. There are a variety of options that are cheap or free that you should look into first. If you find them effective, it’s a win-win situation because you’ll save some money and reduce the chances of dangerous side effects.
